Beijing’s indoor air quality in 90% of the city’s offices is just as bad as the outdoor breeze.
 Among the worst areas were bathrooms and stairwells, with the latter often being a place where stealthy smokers try to evade Beijing’s indoor smoking ban.
 That’s because air is constantly flushed through the system (when door are opened for deliveries, or a colleague opens a window, for example) and toxic particles can get stuck in everything from computers to carpet.
 In fact, “about one-quarter of all buildings surveyed showed worse air quality in indoor working areas than outdoors,”

In 1937, the pieces <of the Palace Museum(故宮博物館)> were put in this vault in Hunan University in Changsha<(湖南省長沙市)>, which at that time was not near the frontline. The government got intelligence that the Japanese were going to bomb Changsha the next morning, so the government ordered the pieces be removed. You can imagine the atmosphere at the time. They were short of everything, like trucks and petrol. They were being attacked by a superior enemy, thousands of people were fleeing, it was a very chaotic period, but the pieces were so important that trucks were sent, pieces were loaded and then taken to a warehouse in the night in Changsha and driven away. The next morning the Japanese bombers bombed Changsha and caused a lot of deaths and destroyed buildings, but none of the pieces were lost or damaged. You could say, why move the pieces and not the people? That’s an indication of how important the government regarded the pieces.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/whos-most-likely-to-be-the-2016-republican-nominee/2016/01/03/fd9d768e-b22f-11e5-9388-466021d971de_story.html?hpid=hp_hp-more-top-stories_mondayfix-120pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory

Rubio as the front-runner, I mean. As the probable Republican nominee.
 According to odds makers and prediction markets, he’s the best bet. According to many commentators, too.・・・
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/03/opinion/sunday/marco-rubio-doesnt-add-up.html?ref=opinion

 As they barnstorm across the caucus and primary states, the Republican and Democratic frontrunners for the presidential nomination often sound as if they're from different countries, not just different parties.
 According to Republicans, the United States faces a daunting list of crises: an existential threat from Islamic extremism, a tidal wave of illegal immigration, a federal government out of control.
 Democrats, meanwhile, are focused on the economy: too few good jobs, too much inequality (both gender and racial), too little access to healthcare.
 They're not just offering different answers to the nation's problems; they're asking different questions.

 White people are angrier about current events and more pessimistic about “the American dream” than other racial groups
 Those who said they felt angrier about current events are more likely to be Republican
 But it’s not men who are the angriest: 53 percent of women said they felt angry about the news compared to last year, while only 44 percent of men did.

 Saudi Arabia cut diplomatic ties with Iran on Sunday and gave Iranian diplomats 48 hours to leave the kingdom・・・
http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/04/world/middleeast/iran-saudi-arabia-execution-sheikh-nimr.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news&_r=0

Saudi Arabia issued an angry statement pointing out that Iran is often accused by many countries of supporting terrorism.
 Iran “is the last regime in the world that could accuse others of supporting terrorism, considering that [Iran] is a state that sponsors terror, and is condemned by the United Nations and many countries,”・・・
 The Saudi statement also pointed out that Iran also is frequently criticized by the international community for carrying out large numbers of executions.
 Iran carried out 694 executions in the first half of last year, according to an Amnesty International statement in July. Saudi Arabia, with a population nearly a third smaller than Iran’s, carried out 157 in 2015,・・・
 ・・・this will complicate a whole range of issues, from the Syrian crisis to Yemen.
 Nimr・・・had consistently advocated nonviolence, and his views transcended the Sunni-Shiite divide・・・.
 “He said Sunnis and Shiites should unite and that anyone who supports the oppressors should be condemned,” she said, citing a 2012 speech in which Nimr condemned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who is from the Shiite-affiliated Alawite sect and is backed by Iran, and the region’s Sunni authoritarian leaders, including the Saudi royal family.
 “This was a big part of why he became problematic for the Saudi regime, because he refused to abide by the sectarian discourse that is basically enforced on everyone,”
