<太田>

http://j.people.com.cn/94476/8556365.html
http://digital.asahi.com/articles/ASG347QK1G34UHBI04H.html?iref=comkiji_txt_end_s_kjid_ASG347QK1G34UHBI04H

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/mar/05/japan-comfort-women-abe-apology

Comfort women were nothing other than simple prostitutes.
http://www.exordio.com/1939-1945/codex/Documentos/report-49-USA-orig.html
What makes me terribly sad is that most of the English people, presumably because of their grudge against Japan, losing Indian subcontinent and eventually the whole British Empire prematurely as a consequence of the War with her--a liberal democratic country simply pursuing anti-Soviet deterrence strategy--, are talking nonsense which has no ground at all.

In any case, you have to know the following facts;
1 Prostitution and brothels were not illegal in Japan then.
2 Japan has the tradition against prohibition on sexual affairs, in fact in Edo period popular prostitutes were revered and were frequently picked up as the models by the grandmasters of woodprint.
3 The reason why Japanese military encouraged the establishment of brothels around oversea bases at that time was empathy, to prevent rape committed by the Japanese soldiers upon local noncombatant women.
4 Of course there were a lot of Japanese comfort women, too.
5 The reason Japanese Government expressed regret to the comfort women who had been involuntarily recruited—which was something akin to the Dutch or German Governments expressing regret to their legal prostitutes who were recruited via human trafficking from Eastern Europe—was because Japanese are extraordinarily empathetic people.

Hence, what is puzzling, in the first place, is why such empathetic people could have committed rapes and atrocities against local noncombatants just like English and American soldiers.

http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/mar/05/japenese-cuisine-washoko-unesco-britain-chefs

Earlier in the week, the commander of the Russian Black Sea fleet, Adm. Alexander Vitko, visited Ukraine’s South Base, according to the deputy base commander, Capt. Viktor Shmiganovsky.
 “He asked me to invite all the officers and suggested that we collectively take up the Russian military allegiance oath and become part of the Black Sea fleet … promising good pay and a bright future,” Shmiganovsky said in an interview. “He insisted we do that to help protect Ukraine from extremist gangs.”
 The officer said his boss, the base commander, retorted: “Comrade admiral, we didn't see any extremist gangs here until you came with your men.” He said the admiral left “in a rage.”

The United States invoked the Monroe Doctrine, along with the imperatives of the Cold War, to justify some of its own interventions there: in Cuba, Panama, Nicaragua, Chile, Grenada, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela — it’s a long list.
 But as the Obama administration has tried to point out to Vladimir Putin, this is the 21st century, and the age when nations had spheres of interest is over.
Yet for the United States, the Monroe Doctrine isn’t exactly a musty relic.
 In fact, the U.S. government did not pronounce the doctrine dead until last November, when Secretary of State John Kerry, in a speech to the Organization of American States, proclaimed, “The era of the Monroe Doctrine is over.”
 From proclamation to renunciation, that era lasted 190 years.・・・
