<太田>

In 1996, IBM’s Deep Blue program overwhelmed the world’s greatest player, Garry Kasparov, with a brute force approach, in which the machine could account for all the possible outcomes.
 AlphaGo’s approach, on the other hand, is, potentially, a game changer. It can master games by adjusting as it goes. ・・・
 Before AlphaGo played against a human, Google researchers had been developing it to play video games -- Space Invaders, Breakout, Pong and others. Without the need of any specific programming, the general purpose algorithm was able to master each game by trial and error -- pressing different buttons randomly at first, then adjusting to maximize rewards. Game after game, the software proved to be cunningly versatile in figuring out an appropriate strategy, and then applying it without making any mistakes.
 The way we define an “expert” needs to encompass an even stronger emphasis of how humans interact. In an age where empathy matters more and raw knowledge no longer suffices, the education system should be the first to undergo an overhaul.
http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebate/2016/03/09/does-alphago-mean-artificial-intelligence-is-the-real-deal/alphagos-success-shows-the-human-advantage-is-eroding-fast
The skills of deep human interaction, the abilities to manage the exchanges that occur only between people, will only become more valuable. Three of these skills stand out: The first, the foundation of the rest, is empathy, which is more than just feeling someone else’s pain. It’s the ability to discern what another person is thinking or feeling, whatever it may be, and to respond in an appropriate way.
 The second is creative problem solving in groups. Research on group effectiveness shows that the key isn't team cohesion or motivation or even the smartest member’s IQ; rather, it’s the social sensitivity of the members, their ability to read one another and keep anyone from dominating.
 The third critical ability, somewhat surprisingly, is storytelling, which has not traditionally been valued by organizations. Charts, graphs and data analysis will continue to be important, but that’s exactly what technology does so well. To change people’s minds or inspire them to act, tell them a story.
 Logic, knowledge and analysis, which we learned from textbooks and in classrooms, are now skills being commoditized by advancing technology. By contrast, the skills of deep human interaction address the often irrational reality of how human beings behave, and we find them not in textbooks but inside ourselves. As computers master ever more complexity, that’s where we’ll find the source of our continued value.

A hallmark of human intelligence is our ability to redefine the game and think out of the box, and this remains a significant frontier for artificial intelligence.

 In surveys between Japan and the US, it seems that the Japanese really want robots that are indistinguishable from humans, while in the US and the West in general, people would rather know it's a robot that they are dealing with・・・

 We believe such a revolution is not only possible but necessary--and that’s why we’re endorsing Bernie Sanders for president. This magazine rarely makes endorsements in the Democratic primary (we’ve done so only twice: for Jesse Jackson in 1988, and for Barack Obama in 2008). We do so now impelled by the awareness that our rigged system works for the few and not for the many. Americans are waking up to this reality, and they are demanding change. This understanding animates both the Republican and Democratic primaries, though it has taken those two contests in fundamentally different directions.

http://www.commondreams.org/views/2016/03/08/washington-post-ran-16-negative-stories-bernie-sanders-16-hours?utm_campaign=shareaholic&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=socialnetwork
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/bernie-sanders-foreign-policy-realist/2016/03/08/c7f3422e-e48a-11e5-a6f3-21ccdbc5f74e_story.html?hpid=hp_no-name_opinion-card-c%3Ahomepage%2Fstory

The math is on Clinton’s side. What’s problematic is the message.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/clintons-shaky-campaign-has-the-math-but-lacks-the-message/2016/03/09/581eea0a-e644-11e5-a6f3-21ccdbc5f74e_story.html?hpid=hp_no-name_opinion-card-c%3Ahomepage%2Fstory
The downside is that freeing up trade clearly exacts some costs in particular sectors, and those affected can be politically mobilized. The solution, though, is not to provoke international enmity and trade conflict by adopting a hostile attitude toward would-be trading partners. The smart policy is embracing openness and pocketing the overall gains in wealth and prosperity, while maintaining a safety net to help those who lose out.
 Unfortunately, Ms. Clinton has failed to make these arguments, though they were a gospel of Bill Clinton’s presidency. Instead, she has surrendered the issue by failing to stand up for the TPP. Mr. Sanders already has the protectionists’ vote; Ms. Clinton would be wise to offer a positive alternative.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/mr-sanders-peddles-fiction-on-free-trade/2016/03/09/9dde0a0e-e634-11e5-bc08-3e03a5b41910_story.html?hpid=hp_no-name_opinion-card-b%3Ahomepage%2Fstory
Mr. Sanders’s opposition to free-trade agreements resonated in Michigan, and are likely to help him in Ohio, Missouri and Illinois next week. He has consistently pointed out Mrs. Clinton’s past support for trade pacts, starting with Nafta when her husband was in the White House, and her shifting positions ever since. Mrs. Clinton is now opposed to the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which she promoted as secretary of state. If she hopes to convince skeptical rust-belt voters that she’s in their corner, she needs to explain why she once believed that trade pacts would help American workers.

 ・・・ for years, she has called to renegotiate Nafta to make it more favorable to workers in the United States. Former aides to Mr. Clinton said she opposed the pact in 1993, but could not speak out against it as first lady.

Sanders briefly mentioned trade with China on Sunday, but it was the 1994 agreement he spent the most time harping on. “Look, I was on a picket line in early 1990s against NAFTA because you didn’t need a Ph.D. in economics to understand that American workers should not be forced to compete against people in Mexico making 25 cents an hour,” the Vermont senator said at one point. His campaign also tweeted pictures of crumbling Detroit buildings, suggesting that “the people of Detroit know the real cost of Hillary Clinton’s free trade policies.”

According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released this week, both Clinton and Sanders would handily defeat the real estate developer in a general election matchup.
 Now, with that in mind, we can all sit back and enjoy a Democratic nominating ride that just got infinitely more complicated and more interesting.

Bernie Sanders’ defeat of Hillary Clinton in Michigan on Tuesday’s primary is the latest — though most egregious — in a series of upsets. Mrs Clinton had been leading by 20 points in an average of polls. Marco Rubio, meanwhile, now undershoots his polls by 10 points or more. “The only predictable thing about 2016 is its unpredictability,”・・・
 Record numbers of Americans are making their choice in the final hours before voting.
