 Japan: The worst developed country for mothers?
 The gender pay gap at median earnings is the second highest in the OECD.
 Then there is paternity leave. Japanese men are entitled to take it, but only a tiny minority actually do - just 2.63%.
 Japan's female employment rate of 60% still ranks well below that of many other developed countries such as Norway at 75%, the US at 66%, and Germany at 64%.
 Roughly 70% of Japanese women quit working after giving birth to their first child. This compares to around one-third of women in the US.
 The ratio of Japanese mothers with children under six who work (34%) remains extremely low compared to 76% in Sweden, 61% in the US, 55% in the UK, and 53% in Germany.

 It is thought that about a quarter of all cowboys were black.
 Not only did Hollywood ignore black cowboys, it plundered their real stories as material for some of its films.
 The West was where white men were able to show their courage. But if a black man could be heroic and have all the attributes that you give to the best qualities in men, then how was it possible to treat a black man as subservient or as a non-person?

When people ask me, “Was the war worth it?,” I am often unsure how to respond. The world is a better place without a tyrant like Saddam Hussein. But poor U.S. post-invasion planning helped unleash sectarian furies that will plague not just Iraq but the broader Middle East for decades.
 I think a better question is “What should the United States do now?” My answer is that the venture into Iraq must not result in American detachment from the region. American ideals and aims are too noble for isolationism. The United States must learn from its errors and use its unequaled power to positively shape the world, helping to prevent future conflicts rather than sparking them.
 Was it worth it to me? I can’t deny that my wife and child are healthy or that there is limitless opportunity for me in the United States. But is that worth losing my friends, family and country? Never.
