<太田>

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%97%A5%E6%9C%AC%E5%89%B5%E6%96%B0%E5%85%9A

takahashi)

http://www.chosunonline.com/news/20100705000038

・・・Turkey has hardened its stance towards Israel over the "freedom flotilla" taking aid to the Gaza Strip, warning today that it will sever diplomatic relations unless the Israelis issue a formal apology or accept an international investigation into the incident.

・・・For many in aging and debt-weary Europe, which will be lucky to eke out a little more than 1 percent growth this year, Turkey’s economic renaissance ? last week it reported a stunning 11.4 percent expansion for the first quarter, second only to China・・・
So complete has this evolution been that Turkey is now closer to fulfilling the criteria for adopting the euro ? if it ever does get into the European Union ? than most of the troubled economies already in the euro zone. It is well under the 60 percent ceiling on government debt (49 percent of G.D.P.) and could well get its annual budget deficit below the 3 percent benchmark next year. That leaves the reduction of inflation, now running at 8 percent, as the only remaining major policy goal.

・・・We hear from a 17th-century Viennese preacher (“After Satan Christians have no greater enemies than the Jews”), Karl Marx (“What is the worldly cult of the Jew? Huckstering. What is his worldly god? Money”) and the Hezbollah secretary general, Hassan Nasrallah (“If we searched the entire world for a person more cowardly, despicable, weak and feeble in psyche, mind, ideology and religion, we would not find anyone like the Jew”). ・・・
Racism attaches negative attributes onto people bearing a particular biological heritage. Such characteristics are passed on; they are inherited. The hatred is focused; the perceived threat can be excised. In a way, racism is a materialist or physical passion: the problem and the solution are concrete.
While anti-Semitism has tapped into racial hatreds in modern times, <the> highlight <is> its traditional reliance on conspiracy: the hidden plot. Anti-Semitism isn’t just a matter of asserting unpleasant or reprehensible attributes. It sees the Jew as an antinomian threat, overturning all ethical laws. The Jew works in secret, creating invisible alliances, pulling elaborate strings, undermining society’s foundations.・・・
Anti-Semitism is a metaphysical passion, not a materialist one. It doesn't even require a Jewish presence (as many anti-Semitic societies with Jews have proven). One reason anti-Semites have been so obsessed with the issue of finance in the modern world is that money is the circulatory system of capitalist society. It is mysterious, manipulable: the Jew’s perfect instrument. The Jew, first seen as a theological spoiler, becomes a metaphysical and monetary spoiler. The medieval image of the Jew was related to the vampire, ・・・the modern anti-Semitic vision sees the Jew as a guzzler of a society’s lifeblood. ・・・
Nazi ideology bears many resemblances to that of contemporary Islamic extremism, some the consequence of careful teaching. That teaching is still present in the Arab world, amplified by political leaders and imams, often annexed to denigrations of Jews taken from Islamic sources.

・・・the suspects did not appear to know about one another. The husband-and-wife teams knew of their partners, of course, but beyond that this was clearly not a spy “ring,” as it has sometimes been described. It was a collection of disparate efforts.
That means it is unlikely that the US found out about them all by stumbling upon one, who then betrayed the rest. Are the charges just the result of years of electronic surveillance? Did a higher-level turncoat hand information about them to the FBI? Does the US have a mole inside Russia’s foreign intelligence service, the SVR?・・・
Prosecutors said they carried out the mass arrests because one of the suspects was set to leave the country and they did not want to lose cases they had worked on for years.
But over the past 10 years many of the suspects traveled abroad at some point. And if most of the suspects did not know most of the others, why would they have fled if one was arrested?

・・・Cricket became baseball, rugby turned into American football, and even basketball can be considered a variation on indigenous native American activities. ・・・
The predominance and head start of those more "American" games has not allowed soccer the space to develop at the collegiate and professional level and, perhaps most crucially, is not massively dreamed of as a path to grandeur by athletically endowed children mired in poverty. ・・・
Nor do children in the United States get to watch much soccer on television. This last point may be an insoluble problem for the sport's advancement because it concerns the structure of the game itself. Major U.S. sports events have timeouts and interludes during which ads can be breathlessly crammed in, but one of the essential attractions of soccer is the dramatic relentlessness of the contest once it has begun. ・・・
Do all these circumstances mean that soccer in the U.S. is doomed to a minor status forever? There are several reasons for tentative optimism. The first is that the United States, despite the increasing stridency of its anti-immigrant nativists, continues to import millions of citizens from the rest of the world. These men and women and children smuggle their love for soccer across the border along with their frequently illegal bodies.
The second reason is that we are living a moment in history when the very notion of American exceptionalism is under siege. If the United States were indeed to abandon the idea that it has been chosen by God to save the world, if its citizens were to really entertain the notion that they are just the same as humans all over the globe and not uniquely endowed with shining virtue, could they not someday join the rest of the species in celebrating the most beautiful sport of our time?

・・・The question I was in Africa chasing was: why will a chimp get into a severe fight with another ? perhaps kill or maim it ? while a bonobo, in the same situation, won’t? ・・・
Richard Wrangham, thinks this may be because chimpanzees evolved in a situation of food scarcity while bonobos developed in the giant salad bowl of the Congo basin where there was abundance.
Another thing: bonobos are matriarchal.・・・
