http://zasshi.news.yahoo.co.jp/article?a=20100212-00000001-president-bus_all

<太田>

http://www.moonlight.vci.vc/misc/saddest_anime2.html

The film’s anti-war message is not overstated.
There is no real mention of the fire-bombings in a political way,
only in the grief experienced by the civilian Japanese people.
Takahata has created an anti-war epic without resorting to finger pointing,
a remarkable achievement. He accepts the consequences of the Second World War
and is only showing the forgotten souls of the war,
the innocents who are caught in the crossfire of destruction.
http://www.apolloguide.com/mov_fullrev.asp?CID=4516

In an interview on the DVD, Takahata reveals his disappointment that Japanese audiences identified with Seita when the film was shown in Japan. Takahata clearly feels Japanese audiences missed the point of the film in this regard.

It tells a simple story of survival.

http://osaka.yomiuri.co.jp/news/20100316-OYO1T00698.htm?from=main3

http://www.os-dream.com/jcg/sst.html

http://www.navytimes.com/news/2010/02/navy_SEAL_killed_update_021810w/

<太田>

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%89%B9%E5%88%A5%E8%AD%A6%E5%82%99%E9%9A%8A_(%E6%B5%B7%E4%B8%8A%E8%87%AA%E8%A1%9B%E9%9A%8A)

http://www.sangiin.go.jp/japanese/kenpou/houkokusyo/pdf/youyaku.pdf
P.53

<太田>

The <South Korean> government is moving to scrap Korea's singularly punitive adultery law. ・・・
<It> is also reportedly discussing permitting abortions, which remain illegal in Korea.

・・・dogs were probably first domesticated from wolves somewhere in the Middle East, in contrast to an earlier survey suggesting dogs originated in East Asia. ・・・
This finding puts the first known domestication ? that of dogs ? in the same place as the domestication of plants and other animals, and strengthens the link between the first animal to enter human society and the subsequent invention of agriculture about 10,000 years ago. ・・・
Wolves were probably first domesticated in the Middle East, but after dogs had spread to East Asia there was a crossbreeding that injected more wolf genes into the dog genome・・・
Humans lived as roaming hunters and gatherers for most of their existence. ・・・wolves began following hunter-gatherer bands to feed on the wounded prey, carcasses or other refuse. At some stage a group of wolves, who happened to be smaller and less threatening than most, developed a dependency on human groups, and may in return have provided a warning system.

・・・One way would be to press the I.M.F. to officially pronounce on whether China is breaking the rules and manipulating its exchange rate. That is part of the fund’s job, though it has preferred not to pick the fight. China would find it far harder to reject an I.M.F. determination than any American criticism.・・・
Even before that, it would help if some other countries ? certainly those in the European Union, but perhaps aspiring players including India and South Korea ? started publicly making the case that the cheap renminbi is hurting them, too.

・・・The idea that a single Humvee containing three American soldiers would drive around in search of a car bomb is simply divorced from reality・・・
Even on the base, which is jointly operated by the Americans and the Iraqi Army, there is a hesitance on the part of the United States soldiers to interact with their counterparts. Indeed, the top security risk lately, the soldiers said, was the prospect of being kidnapped on base by an Iraqi soldier, or a person dressed in an Iraqi uniform, which can easily bought be in one of the city’s markets.・・・
The thought of venturing beyond the walls of the base without armored vehicles, loaded assault rifles and a game plan, is absurd to most soldiers・・・
They also marveled at the fact that journalists live in the city, beyond the fortress of the Green Zone, and don’t carry weapons.

・・・Pakistan is the opposite of Germany. The mountains are in the north, the sea is in the south, the economic problems are in the west and the east is doing well. It's not hard for a German living in Pakistan to get used to these differences, but one contrast is hard to stomach: Most people like Hitler.・・・
Pakistanis always hone in on that topic whenever they talk to Germans. "We're Aryans too," they say, because there was an Indo-Germanic race, the Aryas. Besides, Hitler was a military genius, they add. ・・・
In the Islamic world, not just in Pakistan but right across from Iran to northern Africa, anti-Semitic sentiment of course plays a role. Conversations with German visitors rapidly turn to the injustice being suffered by the Palestinians who were robbed of their land.・・・
English editions of Hitler's "Mein Kampf" can be found in bookshops even in the most remote parts of India. And Indian schoolbooks have been known to celebrate Hitler as a great leader.

Hong kong>’s Gini coefficient, which measures income inequality, is the worst in Asia (worse even than India and mainland China)

・・・now -- surprise -- conservatives are fighting back. Look closely at the new Texas social studies standards and you'll find attacks on every sacred cow in the liberal pantheon, starting with the separation of church and state. While liberals often impute the principle to the Founding Fathers, the Texas standards hold that the founders imagined America as a "Christian nation."

The new standards also reject the idea of American imperialism, preferring to call it "expansionism." They insist on the superiority of America's "free enterprise system," which will replace the prior standards' reference to "capitalism." ・・・
When we get to the Cold War, the new standards note that recent archival discoveries "confirmed suspicions of communist infiltration in the U.S. government." And for the 1960s and beyond, the standards advise, students should examine the "unintended consequences" of Great Society legislation, affirmative action and Title IX.・・・
